ASAHIKLIN AK-225 is an environmentally sensible hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC), designed to replace chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), perfluorocarbons (PFC), and other HCFCs, which have high ozone depletion potential, in a wide variety of applications. Its selective solvency, physical properties, and ability to form azeotropes make AK-225 ideal for general and precision cleaning, drying and defluxing applications. AK-225 can also be used as a carrier for silicone and fluorinated lubricants and as a coolant.
ASAHIKILIN AK-225 is thermally stable, non-flammable and recoverable by distillation with no decomposition. It has substantially lower global warming potential (GWP) than PFCs and HFCs and an extremely low ozone depletion potential (ODP).
Asahiklin Solvent Formulations Six formulations have been commercialized: AK-225 for precision cleaning, as a carrier fluid, for cooling, and for other applications where CFC-113, HCFC-141b, and PFCs are utilized; AK-225AES, AK-225T, and AK-225ATE for defluxing, drying, and other applications where CFC-113/alcohol azeotropes and HCFC-141b/alcohol azeotropes are used; and AK-225DH for displacement drying.
Additional formulations are available for those special needs not accommodated by the existing product line.
Compatibility
Asahiklin solvents have a broad range of compatibilities, similar to CFC-113. Representative plastics, elastomers, marking inks, substrates, solder masks, and metals have been tested under normal and extreme conditions. Compatibility can be affected by variations in material manufacture and it is advisable to recheck critical components under use conditions before a final commitment to AK-225 is made.
Stability
AK-225 and its azeotropes and blends have higher stability than the CFC-113 series of products. They do not decompose in the presence of moisture and are more stable in the presence of white metals. Although AK-225 is nonflammable, it can, like CFC-113, be decomposed by open flames or hot surfaces such as in space heaters. Good ventilation minimizes the hazard from decomposed solvent vapors.
Safety
AK-225 and its azeotropes and blends have low acute toxicity, and are not carcinogenic. A 100 ppm AEL (maximum time weighted average concentration to which a worker may be exposed 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week over a lifetime) has been set by the manufacturer.

Method of Use:
AK-225 can be used at ambient temperature; but this solvent is most economical and effective if utilized with Vapor Degreasing Equipment. Cleaning by Vapor Degreasing is fast (average process time is less than 3 minutes) and provides good consistent cleaning results. These machines continuously provide clean distillate solvent while minimizing solvent loss. More information on Vapor Degreasers can by found by visiting the following manufacturers’ websites:
